ABOUT ME

karin lin

The technical side of science and research is precise and protocoled in order to accurately describe the workings of our cells, environments, and universe.

That is not to say there is no room to be imaginative, creative, and even a little whimsical. I find so much joy at the intersection of art and science, where I  capture complex ideas or data into engaging visuals to help broaden the reach to audiences of all types.

With training as a neuroscientist and fondness for art, I aim use aesthetic design in conjunction with scientifically informed observations to represent research in an accurate and captivating way.

RESEARCH

I am a neuroscientist with background in stem cell and glial biology, with in vitro, in vivo, and computational experience with models of neurodegenerative and age-associated disorders.

My interest in science began as undergraduate student at the University of British Columbia, Canada. My research projects in Alzheimer's Disease and schizophrenia piqued my fascination with the brain and led me to pursue graduate studies with a focus in neuroscience. I obtained my PhD from UCSF in 2018, where I studied how blood factors that built up with age affected neural stem cell function. My postdoctoral work brought me to Denali Therapeutics (South San Francisco) where I characterized the cell-type-specific lipidome and transcriptome of various mouse neurodegeneration models.

Currently, I am a Senior Scientist at Calico Life Sciences (South San Francisco) where I use single cell technologies to study the regulation and consequences of stress pathways in disease and aging.
